Vectorize will convert bitmap artwork into vector artwork. This is used when a bitmap image needs to be modified in such a way that the Bitmap editor cannot accommodate. Once vectorized, images can be edited in the Vector drawing package or exported as an EMF or WMF file.
The quality of the vector image produced is directly proportional to the quality of the image being vectorized.
Example1
In this example we start out with a flat color, good quality image of a basketball as shown on the left. After conversion to Vector (the right image) the image is essentially the same, but now is in Vector format
Example2
In this example we start out with a shaded, more realistic looking basketball on the left. As you can see the vectoize process had to flatten the colors and you end up with a much more abrupt change where the raster image was able to provide a more gradual change
Note
Vectorize works best on larger images. If you are getting a very poor result, try scaling up the image in any bitmap drawing package first, then import and try vectorizing again.
