Filters allow you to apply distortions, or frames similar to the text frames to objects on the main canvas. The Filters can be applied to outlines or stitches depending on the file type and your needs. Filters can apply effects to stitch files that would be difficult to impossible to do any other way.

Apply to Stitches or Outlines

This setting will apply the filter effect only to the stitches the selection. For expanded designs such as DST, XXX, or FDR, this makes no difference. For Outlines files such as ERF, this setting will either change the shape of the outline, or only the stitches within the outline, depending on the desired outcome.

In this example we have a simple rectangle that we are going to apply a wave filter to

This is the result of applying the wave filter to the Outlines, As you can see the outlines are distorted to product the wave shape, however the stitching remains straight and flat.

This is the filter applied to the stitches, as you can see the stitches follow a wave shape. However the Outline of the shape did not change.

If you were to edit the outline of this block, the stitch effect would be lost as the block would reprocess back to the original outline

Filter Shapes

The different filter shapes will allow you to achiever different results. The shapes are similar to the lettering frames and allow similar control.

Experiment with the different shapes, utilizing Apply to Stitches and Apply to Outlines to get familiar with the expected results.

You can achieve results with Filters that would not be possible through traditional embroidery methods.
